University of Local Knowledge

University of Local Knowledge

All too often, we find people from post-industrial societies to go and ‘teach’ those in ‘underdevelopped’ societies something, when the knowledge of those living in these societies is at threat of being ignored. Elders see their children and grandchildren moving to cities to embrace industrial lifestyles, reducing our ability to live with nature, and to rely on the people we know best.

To try and stop this process, we have starting the University of Local Knowledge, where our forest professors teach us what their ancestors have taught them.

We aim to achieve a number of things:

preserve old local knowledge for those to come, in accordance with their keepers

pass essential information on tho those that are interested to learn, esp. young local people

generate income from knowledge and use this to strengthen forest communities in preserving the miombo woodlands
