Boots & fruits for kids
You may not notice is, but the miombo forests are full of fruits! Throughout the year, there are things to pick, if you just know where to look and how to pick them sustainably, see next year, you can pick again. To help kids learn more about these hidden resources, we aim to take them on forests trips at the University of Local Knowledge, a few kilometers from the town of Chilonga.
We are still fundraising to make this project work. For each class of 40 kids and max. 10 supervisors, we need:
- money for transport (fuel and the rent of a bus), estimated at 200 Euro
- boots for kids who do not have high shoes. We intend to buy these at local second hand shops, or get gum boots from Mpika. Both are about 200 Kwacha per pair (roughly 8 Euro x 40 kids > 320 Euro).
- printing materials allowing the kids to remember their lessons and share them at home (2 Euro x 40 > 80 Euro)
- lunch for all kids, plus their supervisors (2.5 Euro x 50 > 125 Euro)
Total: 725 Euro’s per trip. Once we have done our first pilot trip, we will review the budget.
